Jochen Brunow

Born in Rendsburg, Nothern Germany, Jochen studied German Literature and Journalism in Berlin. Afterwards, he wrote as a critic for newspapers and journals, founded the Magazine FILME and was one of its editors.

Since 1980 he worked as a screenwriter for film and television. He has also written the scripts for some of the Felix Ceremonies of the European Film Academy. His films include Berlin Chamissoplatz (1980) and System ohne Schatten (Closed Circuit, 1983) and several 90-minute television plays like Bella Block (2002-2003) and Kommissarin Lucas (2003).

In 1986 Jochen was one of the founders of the Verband Deutscher Drehbuchautoren (Screenwriters’ Guild of Germany), and began teaching screenwriting at Universities and Film schools. He has been jury member of several film funds, and in 1997 he was Writer in Residence at Grinnell College, USA.

In 2006 Jochern started a project called SCENARIO, a yearbook of film narration published each year at the Berlinale Film Festival – he remains active on the project as editor.

Since 2007 he has been head of the Screenwriting Academy at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb).
