Daniel was born in Oporto, Portugal. In 2002, he graduated in Sound and Image, with a two year specialisation in Scriptwriting from the Portuguese Catholic University. At the time, he wrote a short film, ‘Um Filme Sem História‘ (‘Film Without Story’), which won the main prize at the Oporto 2001 European Capital of Culture Film Festival.

After graduation, he worked as a freelance screenwriter for television, writing for a Portuguese sitcom and for a children series A Bruxa e o ET (The Witch and the ET), which aired on national public TV. He also worked on several TV pilots.

In 2004, Daniel become content manager of Encore, an audiovisual company  based in Oporto, where he wrote for institutional films and managed several indoor tv channels (for example: the Dolce Vita Shopping Centre’s TV). He also worked as assistant director for TV commercials.

Since 1999, he has worked as a film critic for several publications.

In 2008, Daniel won a bursary for his Ph.D. at University of Aveiro (in the field of the cultural studies – with specialisation in cinema). He is also professor of scriptwriting at the University of Applied Sciences of Bragança.

He is a member of the board of the Portuguese Association of Screenwriters and Playwrights (APAD), and the editor of its online magazine DRAMA. He is now in the process of writing for several books and publications.
