Today we return to another powerhouse of organisation behind the conference: Sarah Dearing, part-time Secretariat of the International Affiliation of Writers Guilds (IAWG).

Sarah began her career studying journalism at Ryerson University where she quickly realized a preference for fictionalized accounts of the world.

Later, she worked for many years at the Writers Guild of Canada, administering the collective agreements and assisting current Executive Director, Maureen Parker, during the organization’s transition away from its parent organization, ACTRA.

Sarah is also an acclaimed Canadian novelist with two books to her credit: The Bull is not Killed (1998) and Courage My Love (2001). The latter appeared on The Globe and Mail’s best-seller list upon its release, and was awarded the 2002 City of Toronto Book Award.

Sarah is a Board Member of the Ottawa International Writers Festival and recipient of the Canada Council’s Joseph S. Stauffer Prize for most promising young writer.

She currently resides in Toronto.
