Participant profile: Gail Renard

Today we jet over to England to find out more about British delegate, Gail Renard.

British delegate: Gail Renard

Gail Renard

Gail is an experienced comedy writer and performer, former Chair of the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (WGGB) and current Chair of the WGGB’s television committee.

She’s won a Bafta Award for her BBC-TV comedy/ drama series, Custer’s Last Stand Up. Gail writes for all media, including film and stage,  and has just finished a book about her friendship with John Lennon at his Bed-In, to be published next year.

Gail’s television writing includes Channel 4’s Get up, Stand Up, The Famous Five film series and, for the intellectuals amongst us, BBC-TV’s Chucklevision.

Gail is passionately interested in writers’ rights. She was  a director of the Authors’ Licensing and Collecting Society (ACLS) for four years, which has given her a valuable insight into the global distribution and territories of secondary, as well as primary, rights.

Gail feels strongly that we have only a short time to get our digital gatekeepers into place, to protect writers everywhere, both now and in the future.

It’s more important than ever that we all work together in friendship and harmony.
