Participant profile: Lauren Mackenzie

In the weeks running up to the conference we’ll be running brief biographies of some of delegates attending the World Conference of Screenwriters. We’re starting the series with Irish screenwriter Lauren Mackenzie:

Lauren Mackenzie

Lauren works in both television and film as an editor and writer. As editor with the Irish broadcaster RTÉ her credits include the award-winning television series Bachelors Walk and Pure Mule, on which she also co-wrote story.

She’s written several episodes of RTÉ’s one-hour drama series On Home Ground and The Clinic. For the Irish language broadcaster, TG4, she co-wrote Na Cloigne, a 3 x 1 hour supernatural drama.

Her first feature, The Daisy Chain, an original psychological horror, directed by Aisling Walsh and starring Samantha Morton, is awaiting distribution. It was nominated for Best Irish Film in the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival by the Dublin Film Critics Circle.

Her feature script, The Swimming Lesson, is due to be produced this year with Niall Heery (Small Engine Repair) directing.

At present Lauren is adapting a Cecelia Ahern novella, Mrs. Whippy, for Parallel Films, and An Exact Replica of a Figment of my Imagination, a memoir by Elizabeth McCracken, for Newgrange Pictures.

Her original screenplay, The Christmas List, was recently selected to be part of the Berlinale Talent Campus Script Station.
